RIP Pete Steele

It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to one of the greatest composers, musicians and performers in Metal and rock, Type O Negative singer, bassist and songwriter Pete Steele. Type O ’s music has been a great influence on me and he will be sorely missed. Here is the official statement from Pete’s family:

In a statement issued today by Steele`s family: “Legendary Goth/Heavy Metal musician Peter Steele died suddenly Wednesday, April 14, 2010, after a short illness at the age of 48. He wrote and orchestrated the music for the Brooklyn–based band Type O Negative, a groundbreaking group known for its dramatic lyrical emphasis on the themes of romance, depression, and death. Steele, renowned as much for his striking physical appearance as his musical talent, was the creative force behind the bands 20–year success writing most of the material for the their albums. Type O Negative and Steele have been lauded as a major influence by numerous alternative and metal bands. The band gained a worldwide following through touring and recording seven studio albums, two best–of compilations, concert DVDs and music videos. Their 1993 album “Bloody Kisses” went platinum, and the 1996 follow–up “October Rust” went gold.

The music world has lost a great talent, and music fans worldwide are

The music world has lost a great talent, and music fans worldwide are mourning, but for our family we are mourning a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, friend and funny man. Peter Steele was a complex man, known for his brooding looks, his self–deprecating sense of humor, unique view of the world, and most of all his loyalty to his fans, friends and family. Survived by five sisters, the eldest living sister notes that he was more than our brother, he was our son. His untimely death is tragic – a great loss to us and to music. The official cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy results, and funeral plans at present remain unknown. The family thanks fans for their loyalty to Peter and band members, but request that fans and media respect their wishes for privacy.

In addition to his success in music, Peter Steele also tried his hand at acting, appearing in HBO`s Oz and the cult classic film Bad Acid. He also composed music for the film soundtracks “Freddy vs. Jason” and “Mortal Combat”, the television movie “Nosferatu: The First Vampire”, and the soon–to–be released “Living the American Nightmare.”

The Lies

It's amazing to think how much we are manipulated as children into thinking that what we do is unnatural. Traditional parenting requires that you crush any form of spontaneity in your child with brute force, lies, manipulation and humilation. If your child touches him or herself he is wrong and naughty for doing so, and yet animals do it all the time instinctively. I have 2 cats and they groom each other constantly and sometimes they touch their private parts. Parents de this to be wrong if a child is caught exploring his private regions, which is only natural to a small child who is exploring their world, and they are told this is wrong and perhaps even beaten for it. How can it be wrong to explore the world around you? This doesn't just apply to a child touching it's private parts but any sort of spontaneous emotion or something that is seen as 'insubordination' on the part of the child is strictly punished by the parents and the child quickly learns to be silent, to do what he or she is told and that their natural instincts and emotions are wrong. This in turn leads to the emotions being repressed as the it is too painful for a child to face the unbearable truth that their parents lie and manipulate them in order to get them to 'behave' in the way that doesn't threaten their own repressed emotions. Eventually the child grows up and these repressed emotions, rage, sadness and despair eventually get released, either in violence against themselves or against others. It results in depression and illness and is the reason why there is so much hatred and violence on this world. It has to stop and I will speak out and try to make a difference. The old ways are the wrong ways

I have always thought that I was a 'normal' person. I thought that my parents were 'normal' and by extension my family were 'normal'. I was wrong. I doubt that most people families are 'normal'. I discovered this by reading a book by Swiss Psychoanalyst and Author Alice Miller. The book was called 'The Body never lies' and it literally saved my life. It has opend the door for me to begin living the life I want and freeing myself from the cruelty and indignation I suffered at the hands of my parents, and which I still suffer internally due to their conditioning of me when I was still an infant. This is not an anomaly and is in fact a societal norm that happens in most families. The thing is that we don't remember what happened to us as children and so how could we say whether we were conditioned to obey our parents at such an early age or not. We can't, but it did happen.
This blog is my attempt to express my self and my emotions, which were denied to me by my parents for such a long time. It may be confronting to some but it is all the truth. I hope you find it interesting and incitefull.
